Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer is pretty blunt when it comes to Michael Floyd‘s kombucha tea defense. If the wide receiver lied, then he’s probably going to find himself cut.
At least that’s what Zimmer told the St. Paul Pioneer Press when asked about Floyd’s excuse for failing an alcohol test which was drinking too much kombucha tea. The test came after the wide-out plead guilty to drunken driving earlier in the year which also resulted in his house arrest.
“Do I believe it? I don’t know how much tea he drank. I have no clue, he said. “I don’t have any doubt why there’d be skepticism, but he told me that he wasn’t (drinking). That it was legit.”
“I said, ‘If I find out you’re lying to me, I’m going to cut you,’ ”
Floyd was arrested last December in Scottsdale, Arizona on suspicion of extreme DUI. Upon is arrest the former Arizona Cardinal blew a 0.217 BAC which was nearly three-times the legal limit. He ended up pleading guilty to the charge this past February.
As far as the kobucha tea thing goes. It’s true that it does have a small alcohol content to the tune of 0.5 percent or less. That volume can increase the longer it sits on the shelf due to the yeast fermenting inside of it. Whether or not that actually contributed to Floyd’s failed test I guess we’ll have to stay tuned.
