If hand, foot and mouth disease was ever going to force a staff ace to take a DL stint, you’d figure that ace would belong to the New York Mets.
Well that’s exactly what happened Sunday when it was announced that Noah Syndergaard would be placed on the 10-day DL with the ailment that according to the CDC usually “affects infants and children younger than five years old.” Symptoms include fever, loss of appetite as well as a rash that’ll show up on the hands, feet and around the mouth. This all could also be accompanied by a sore throat.
Noah Syndergaard is going on the DL with hand, foot & mouth disease. Possible he picked it up working at a kids camp over the all-star break. Perhaps why he had diminished velocity and was tired on Friday. Assistant GM John Ricco said they expect it perhaps to be just one start.

I’m going to go ahead and take a shot in the dark and assume that you could count on one hand the amount of times a professional baseball player has landed on the DL due to hand, foot and mouth disease.
It’s unclear how this latest ailment could effect the Mets’ chances of changing Syndergaard however according to a quick good search, he could be dealing with this for days to weeks.
