Two weeks after the Lions were eliminated from the playoffs by the New Orleans Saints, WR Calvin Johnson made an appearance on Jim Rome is Burning where he discussed a wide variety of topics.

One of those topics according to Justin Rogers of Mlive.com was the issue of a contract extension from the Lions for Johnson.

Johnson expects those talks to begin within the next few months…

“Yeah man, definitely. We’re going to see here soon,” Johnson said. “We should have some talks hopefully, get things rolling on that end.”

Some of the other topics Johnson discussed included the Lions’ 10-6 record, cutting down on the mistakes and setting the bar at his position…

“Coming from where we have been the past few years, where we were last year, we kind of flipped our record from last year,” Johnson said. “We got into the playoffs. That’s a start. We’re just building and this is the first stepping stone for us.”

To take the next step, Johnson said the Lions need to cut down on mistakes and be more consistent.

“We’ve got to be more consistent, cut out the penalties,” Johnson said. “There’s a stretch during the season where they really hurt us — probably three-quarters of the way through — but we kind of cleaned it up last quarter of the season. We just gotta be consistent, play like we were at the end of the season all the way through.
