ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford suffered a dislocation and torn ligaments on the middle finger of his throwing hand during the first quarter of today’s 20-17 win over the Bears. However in an effort to finish out the rest of the season and possible playoff berth, the Detroit signal caller will wear a glove for the remainder of the year.
After the game, Stafford admitted the injury gave him issues gripping the ball. He also apparently has no control over the top part of the finger which is bent at a 90-degree angle.

“Was just trying to figure out what was the best way to manage it,” Stafford said. “You know, the training-room guys, the equipment staff, everybody did a great job. Got me all ready to go, and then I just, I haven’t thrown with one in a long time. Trying to get the feel back was a little difficult.”
Stafford finished the game with the glove and last played on a regular basis with it back in 2011. Generally speaking this is an injury that would require some missed time however given the Lions’ situation in a playoff race, Stafford’s going to attempt to play out the rest of the season despite the injury.
