Things may actually get worse for Stafford and the Rams this season.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, sources surrounding the organization are indicating uncertainty as to when the veteran QB will return this season, if at all.

This past Wednesday, head coach Sean McVay confirmed the 34-year-old QB would be out Sunday against Kansas City with a strained neck and a possible second concussion this season.

Rams coach Sean McVay said Stafford felt some numbness in his legs after taking a hit last Sunday against the Saints but also emphasized that even though Stafford is in the concussion protocol, it doesn’t mean he has been diagnosed with a concussion.

Meanwhile, the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport is reporting that the Rams currently have no plans to shut down Stafford but reaffirmed uncertainty regarding his return in 2022.

Despite the Rams leaving the door open for Stafford this season, time is certainly running out for what is becoming a forgettable year for the defending Super Bowl champs. Sitting at 3-7 and dead last in the NFC West, Stafford is the second key piece of the Rams’ offense shelved for the foreseeable future behind Cooper Kupp who recently underwent ankle surgery. Kupp in turn is expected to miss six to eight weeks.

But in light of Stafford’s multiple injuries, the Rams may end up having to turn to the undrafted 25-year-old Bryce Perkins after John Wolford was limited in practice this past week with an injury.
