Round One

I always love when teams in a good position to do so trade back to accumulate more picks which is exactly what the Los Angeles Rams did when they sent their 31st and 203rd overall selections to the Falcons in exchange for picks No. 45 and 79 on Thursday night.

Rounds Two and Three

After a couple more trades to move back on day two the Rams finally settled to take a couple of pieces for their secondary in Washington safety Taylor Rapp and Michigan corner David Long who are both nice value picks at 61 and 79 overall respectively.

As far as Rapp goes, despite a slow 40 time, his tackling ability is top notch and should be a quality add to the LA secondary. Meanwhile Long’s coverage ability was pretty amazing while in Ann Arbor allowing just 18 catches on 595 coverage snaps according to PFF.

For Darrell Henderson and Bobby Evans, Henderson is a nice pickup considering he’s prone for the big play and can make defenders miss with his elusiveness. Aside from that though, what does the Henderson pickup mean when it comes to Todd Gurley‘s knee?

For Evans he’ll offer the Rams some nice versatility on the offensive line after coming off a nice 2018 season in which he allowed just 20 total pressures across 441 pass-blocking snaps.

Rounds Four through Seven

In round four, the Rams traded up to get Washington interior defensive lineman Gregg Gaines which was a must for LA this draft after the loss of Ndamukong Suh this offseason. Now although Suh is an elite talent, Gaines may end up being a better fit in the long term considering his ability to stop the run and his natural ability at the nose. Last season, the Huskies product was one of the better run stuffers in college football while showing some ability to get at the quarterback.

When it comes to David Edwards out of Wisconsin, the Rams will look to continue to develop his serviceable ability to stop the run while hoping he can improve on his pass blocking skill. Aside from that the good news for a raw guy like Edwards is the Rams have plenty of depth at the position so there won’t be any pressure for him to develop too quickly.

Final Grade: B-
