The Midwest Premier League has announced that Liquid Football out of Detroit will join the league in 2023 in a post on the league’s website.

The Midwest Premier League is proud to announce Liquid Football as the latest club to join the league for 2023. Based in Detroit, Michigan, Liquid Football was launched in 2022 by co-founders Javi Bautista and George Chomakov, both of which have a strong history of soccer in the area.

Javi Bautista and George Chomakov should be very familiar names to Detroit soccer fans given the impact they’ve already had in the scene. Both have been longtime members of Detroit City FC and were last part of that dominating NISA Championship team in 2021, Bautista then as an assistant on Trevor James’ coaching staff and Chomakov as a player.

According to the release, the team is currently scouting home-field locations “within five to 10 minutes from the city of Detroit” and will hold tryouts on March 19th from 4-6 PM at the Schoolcraft College Sports Dome.

Presuming Liquid will join the MWPL East, and depending on where their home pitch will ultimately be located they could very well be the eighth team in the Metro Detroit area. Other local teams include Inter Detroit (Detroit), Cedars FC (Dearborn), Detroit Union FC (Waterford), Livonia City FC (Livonia), Michigan Jaguars FC (Novi), Michigan Stars FC (Washington Twp), and Troy United FC (Troy).
