Just the other day, Lions reporter Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press was reporting that backup QB Shaun Hill has been walking around with a boot on his left foot. The reason for the boot according to Birkett was due to Hill undergoing minor surgery to repair a minor but nagging injury.

Despite the surgery, Hill expects to be 100 percent by the start of training camp.
So no problem and no worries correct?
Well you’d think there would be some sense of apprehension for the Lions given Hill is 33 years old which is by most account over the hill in terms of NFL shelf life.
But this doesn’t seem to be the case for the Lions who didn’t really do anything to address the situation.
Beyond Matthew Stafford and Shaun Hill the Lions don’t have a legitimate NFL starter. Currently as a third string Detroit has untested second year QB Kellen Moore and newly signed, fresh out of college Alex Carder.
Perhaps though this isn’t a worry for the Lions… maybe they have all the confidence in the world in their No. 1 overall pick Matthew Stafford (like they very well should). AJ Mass of ESPN.com makes this assumption based on what the Lions have done or not done this offseason given the news about Hill. This of course too is given the fact that have some very big questions in regards to Stafford’s durability earlier on in his career, the Lions starter has gone on to start in all 16 games the past two seasons. Now it’s this isn’t any Brett Favre streak going but it’s certainly encouraging considering he only was able to play in 13 games his first two years in the league and has the ability to take on a major workload after throwing for 4,967 last season and 5,038 in 2011.
