The Lions finally made some sort of splash on the second day of the NFL Draft trading up to the 40th pick with the Seahawks to take OLB Kyle Van Noy out of Brigham Young University.
Van Noy offers tremendous versatility for the Lions as he’s able to play near the line of scrimmage, rush the quarterback off the edges and be a guy that can drop back into pass coverage. Bottom line Van Noy can attack the opposing offense using a variety of very techniques that makes him extremely difficult to deal with.
Recording 63 tackles, 17.5 for loss, four sacks, two interceptions, a fumble recovery and seven pass deflections during his senior season Van Noy also recorded a 40-yard dash in 4.71 seconds during the combine. He’s also a former teammate and roommate of Lions DE Ziggy Ansah who mentioned that Van Noy was the best defensive player on the Cougars back in 2012.
To move up to 40 the Lions reportedly sent their 45th, 111th and 227th overall picks to the Seahawks.
