Detroit

Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions came to terms with a restructure of the quarterback’s contract opening up around $15 million in cap space for the team as they make their way through free agency.

So what does this mean for the Lions beyond this season?

Not really a whole lot.

The Lions will now be on the hook for $15 million in dead cap money if they were to trade him prior to March of next year which means Goff is probably going to be the QB in 2022 as well. Again that doesn’t mean a whole lot considering Goff was probably going to be the Lions QB then anyways.

Beyond 2022 though, the Lions won’t be on the hook for much in 2023 and 2024 with a $10 and $5 million dollar dead cap hit respectively meaning Goff still has two seasons to prove to the Lions that he’s the team’s QB for at least the next four seasons.
