It appears the Lions‘ optimism surrounding running back Ameer Abdullah‘s foot injury is getting a dose of reality.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Lions are starting to become more realistic regarding Abdullah’s torn foot ligament and now actually believe he’s done for the season.

Detroit Lions running back Ameer Abdullah has a torn ligament in his left foot, and the team believes he will miss the rest of the season, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Initial X-rays on the foot showed no broken bones, a source said, but Abdullah went to Charlotte on Tuesday for a second opinion with specialist Dr. Robert Anderson.

This comes after the much more optimistic thought that Abdullah could return shortly after the week 10 bye.

Abdullah’s injury is just one of the growing list of Lions starters who are dealing with ailments. Heading into week three, linebacker DeAndre Levy will be held out yet again while defense end Ezekiel Ansah will be lost for this week and may next with a  high ankle sprain.
