John Madden died “suddenly” Tuesday according to the NFL at the age 85.
The guy was a legend and a giant of the sport in more ways than one. As a coach with the Oakland Raiders, a broadcaster with his partner Pat Summerall whose contrasting approachers were perfect, and as a pop icon. Seriously, the Madden video game franchise helped transcend the Madden name across multiple generations which continues to this very day.
For anyone that remembers Madden in the broadcast booth though one thing you could certainly appreciate was his use of the telestrator — something that become synonymous with Madden during any broadcast.
