The Detroit Pistons have been a mess as of late. Their dropping games, looking disinterested at times, and are now dealing with trade rumors regarding Richard Hamilton.
Piston coach, John Kuester, made a bold move to switch up the starting line up yet again last night, and there seemed to be some repercussions in the locker room after the game.
One of the most notable move’s was moving Ben Gordon back to the bench, and Rodney Stuckey to shooting guard. Tracy McGrady started at the point guard position, and considering that the ball movement and overall production of the team seems to improve drastically when he has the ball, I don’t think there is anybody who could criticize Kuester’s decision.
There was one decision that seemed to draw some criticism after the game though, and the concerning part was that it came from Kuester’s own locker room.
Richard Hamilton did not even make it off the bench Wednesday night.
Hamilton spoke to the media after the game, and seemed to be discontent with his lack of playing time.
Note: The source of these quotes is the Detroit Free Press.
“I came to the game tonight with my same routine that I was going to play,” he said. “Ain’t nobody warn me, I just came out ready to play the game. I was definitely surprised, you know? Do I think it was a level of disrespect or unfair or anything like that? I’ll leave that to ya’ll, you know?”
Even though Hamilton has said all the right things since being sent to the bench, it is obvious that he is starting to boil over a big, and I am sure that the uncertainty of his near future is adding to his pressure.
“When you’re not playing, it’s like, what did I do?” Hamilton said. “I can’t control my playing time. I can’t control what happens. The only thing I can do is continue to do what I do, and that’s try to get myself, ready to play basketball.”
When Rip was asked if he wanted a change he seemed to revert back to being politically correct:
“Tonight was a different situation,” Hamilton said. “This is probably the first time in my career when I put on a jersey that I didn’t play. I really can’t answer that right now. As long as I go out and put that jersey on, I’m going to go out and play hard and be ready when my number’s called.”
