Newly signed defenseman Ian White probably thought he was lucky when he got the opportunity to sign with the Red Wings during the off-season.

However Tuesday he may be lucky for other reasons, and White will tell you exactly that himself.

Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock revealed that White will be paired with Nicklas Lidstrom during training camp and throughout preseason. Babcock added that if things click, the pairing could take itself into the regular season as well.

White was obviously ecstatic by the move…

“I’m probably the luckiest guy in the hockey world right now,” White said. “To be a new guy coming in here and to be paired up with one of the best defensemen to ever play the game, it’s quite an honor. He’s got a lot to teach me.”

The 27-year-old White signed a 2-year, $5.25 million dollar contract with the Wings this off-season. Aside from his skill and competitiveness, the Red Wings really liked his right-handed shot to pair with a left-handed Lidstrom.
