Thom Brennanman who was caught last month on a hot mic during a Cincinnati Reds broadcast throwing out homophobic slurs like some pro phobe resigned today from his position with the team as well as FOX

WCPO:

“My family and I have decided that I am going to step away from my role as the television voice of the Cincinnati Reds,” Brennaman wrote to WCPO. “I would like to thank the Reds, Reds fans and the LGBTQ Community for the incredible support and grace they have shown my family and me.“

Brennaman has been suspended from the Cincinnati Reds since the Aug. 19 incident. He had been with the Reds since 2006.

“I have been in this profession that I love for 33 years,” he wrote. “It is my hope and intention to return. And if I’m given that opportunity, I will be a better broadcaster and a much better person.“

The incident in question happened on August 19 during the first game of a doubleheader with the Royals in which the hot mic caught the tail end of a sentence where Brennaman uttered “the f** capitals of the world.” He didn’t realize what happened at the time and continued to plug a Reds pregame show. It wasn’t until the midway through the second game of the doubleheader in which he issued an apology and was yanked off the air and suspended.

As a result, Fox Sports also removed Brennaman from their NFL broadcasts for 2020 and it remains unclear if he’ll be brought back in that capacity at all.

Anyways, Brennaman is the son of former Reds broadcaster Marty Brennaman who’s scheduled to be inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame next summer, which should now be a little more interesting.

Thom Brennaman had been with the Reds since 2006.
