Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News writes that despite a big comeback win over Nashville this past Saturday, general manager Ken Holland knows that the Wings aren’t invincible and is more cautious and realistic then a typical Red Wings fan may be.

Yet it seems like most Red Wings fans these past couple months are glass half empty fans rather than the glass half full ones.

Even though the Wings are in a much better position going into the playoffs this year than last, Holland believes the team can be better.

“We’re still trying to find ourselves,” Holland said Monday during a teleconference.

And he’s absolutely right, there are plenty of areas that the Wings can and need to improve upon if they want a long run in this year’s Stanley Cup playoffs.

Currently the Wings rank 21st in goals against (227 goals-against, 2.87 average); and are a very mediocre 21-13-6 at Joe Louis Arena, 11-12-4 in their last 27 games.

“We did a good job of finding ways to win games and filling holes for people we had lost. We sort of held where we were at (in the standings). We came out of the All-Star break, I don’t think we’ve played nearly as consistent as we did earlier as we’ve got our bodies (players) back.”

However according to Kulfan, Holland is pleased with the way some of the young players like Darren Helm, Justin Abdelkader and Jakub Kindl have strengthened the team.
