Despite some outcry from Michigan fans for Devin Gardner to be the starting QB, Michigan head coach Brady Hoke says he won’t sway from Denard Robinson.
Hoke reiterated Monday that Robinson will be the teams starting QB and believed that physical play is part of football dismissing Michigan State from being a dirty team.
“Denard is our quarterback,” Hoke said. “We’re 6-1 (and) a lot of that is because Denard is our quarterback.”
Hoke also defended the fourth-and-short play at the MSU 9-yard line that resulted in Robinson taking a 10-yard loss. This is according to Angelique S. Chengelis of the Detroit News.
“I liked the play,” Hoke said. “If we execute the play … we don’t make a block that you need to make. That’s part of it. That play’s been very successful for us. It’s a nice complement to the dive. We just didn’t execute it.”
Now Denard Robinson shouldn’t lose his job, this year. Michigan is in a transitional period right now which also pertains to the quarterback position. Devin Gardner should slowly be inserted into that role while Denard Robinson slowly gets accustomed to another role on the offense whether it be at running back or slot receiver.
What does remain clear though is Michigan cannot kid themselves into believing that the same offense employed the last few years under Rich Rodriguez can work now.
