Heading into this Sundayโ€™s wild card game between the Lions and Cowboys, Dallas safety Barry Church issued out a within the rules threat towards Golden Tate. Church was making the threat for payback after a hit Tate laid on Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee back in 2012 when the Lions wide out was a member of the Seattle Seahawks.

The only problem is Tate doesnโ€™t know who the hell Barry Church isโ€ฆ or so he says.

Via NBC Sports:

โ€œMan, I donโ€™t know this guy,โ€ Tate said, via ESPN. โ€œI just now heard of him yesterdayfrom this incident. Heโ€™s trying to get on the scene, I guess. Weโ€™ll see.โ€

Tate says he still doesnโ€™t see anything wrong with the hit he laid on Lee in 2012, a hit that did not draw a penalty flag but did draw a $21,000 fine.

โ€œWell, we didnโ€™t get a flag two years ago and I didnโ€™t think I should have been fined either,โ€ Tate said.

Tate though welcomes the attempt at payback within the rules:

โ€œIf you play within the rules, I have no problem with that,โ€ Tate said. โ€œThis game is a physical game. Itโ€™s not the first time that people have, I guess, called me out. An old great football player told me once that you canโ€™t hit what you canโ€™t catch. So, weโ€™ll see.โ€

Whatever.
