Heading into this Sundayโs wild card game between the Lions and Cowboys, Dallas safety Barry Church issued out a within the rules threat towards Golden Tate. Church was making the threat for payback after a hit Tate laid on Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee back in 2012 when the Lions wide out was a member of the Seattle Seahawks.
The only problem is Tate doesnโt know who the hell Barry Church isโฆ or so he says.
Via NBC Sports:
โMan, I donโt know this guy,โ Tate said, via ESPN. โI just now heard of him yesterdayfrom this incident. Heโs trying to get on the scene, I guess. Weโll see.โ
Tate says he still doesnโt see anything wrong with the hit he laid on Lee in 2012, a hit that did not draw a penalty flag but did draw a $21,000 fine.
โWell, we didnโt get a flag two years ago and I didnโt think I should have been fined either,โ Tate said.
Tate though welcomes the attempt at payback within the rules:
โIf you play within the rules, I have no problem with that,โ Tate said. โThis game is a physical game. Itโs not the first time that people have, I guess, called me out. An old great football player told me once that you canโt hit what you canโt catch. So, weโll see.โ
Whatever.
