Mike Williams, the former two-year wide out from USC who was one of the crown jewel busts of the Matt Millen regime has a new line of work according to the LA Times (via The Big Lead), as a football coach for Locke High in Southern California.
According to the LA Times write, up Williams was previously a coach at a middle school before a positive review from Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll helped the former 10th overall pick land the new gig.
In his first two seasons with USC, Williams accumulated 176 catches, 2,579 yards and 30 touchdowns before trying to declare himself eligible for the NFL Draft after only being two years removed from high school. NFL Draft rules though prohibited this and long story short Williams had to sit out a season without returning to school since he had already hired an agent which is against the NCAA guidelines.
Williams was just one bad mistake after another which carried over with Matt Millen in a very fitting way. Ultimately Williams lasted two seasons with Detroit before being traded to the Oakland Raiders on the first day of the 2007 NFL Draft. After that Williams’ NFL career didn’t last long as he was eventually released by the Raiders and Titans. Two years removed from the game he was signed by the Seahawks in 2010 and released again in 2012 before hooking up with Toronto in the CFL. And like his past NFL endeavors he was also released from that contract as well.
Hopefully he’s a better football coach than he was a player.
