Former Athletics outfielder Jeremy Giambi has passed away at the age of 47.
Emergency personnel was reportedly called to Giambi’s parent’s house in Southern California Wednesday morning around 11 am local time where Jeremy was already found deceased. Currently, officials are suspecting suicide as a cause of death.
Meanwhile, the Athletics released the following statement:
“We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of a member of our Green and Gold family, Jeremy Giambi. We offer our condolences to Jeanne, Jason, and his family and friends.”
Giambi played in the Majors from 1998 to 2003 with his A’s stint lasting from 2000 to 2002. It was during his time in the Bay Area that Giambi enjoyed the most success of his professional career slashing .272/.374/.445 with 30 home runs and 124 RBIs over the course of those two-plus seasons. It was also during his time with Oakland Jeremy teamed with his brother Jason from 2000 to 2001 before Jason eventually signed with the New York Yankees.
