Detroit

So are we getting any closer to an Alex DeBrincat trade to the Red Wings?

Reports last week suggested that a deal between Ottawa and Detroit was on the “one-yard line” which still seems to be the case today. Perhaps maybe even the half-yard line if what’s being said is true in that a tentative deal has been sorted out between the two teams but with one important detail still not entirely worked out.

That detail?

According to several reports, Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman doesn’t want to give up an eight-year extension for the 25-year-old forward.

Eight-year deals are quite the commitment for any player. Especially when you consider the contract extensions that are coming for players like Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond — and I’m sure Yzerman is weighing into all of that when it comes to a possible DeBrincat extension. But damn… Yzerman did just hand over a five-year deal to J.T. Compher.
