The Red Wings got more news on the extent of forward Patrick Eaves’ injury Sunday. According to the Detroit Free Press, Eaves will undergo surgery to fix a fractured jaw he suffered Saturday night when a puck struck him in the right ear. With the surgery Eaves is scheduled to return to the Wings by mid January.

In addition to this the Wings have also sent down forward Fabian Brunnstrom back to Grand Rapids.

This latest transaction marks the third time Brunnstrom has been sent back and forth between the NHL and AHL this week. There is no word yet on if the Wings will recall someone else from Grand Rapids or if the move was done to give Brunnstrom more playing time since the Wings don’t hit the ice again until Wednesday.

With Eaves’ injury and Brunnstrom back with Grand Rapids the Wings currently only have 12 healthy forwards on their roster.
