Eastern Michigan got their first home win since 2008 in a big way Sunday as they defeated Howard 41-9 from Rynearson Stadium in Ypsilanti.
The game was actually delayed a day after sever weather moved through the Ypsilanti area Saturday night.
“I’m one of the few guys that have been around here since our last home win,” said senior offensive lineman Bridger Buche. “It’s great to see the young guys that have come in and put so much work in, and the coaches – this is their first home win, too – I’m happy for everybody. This is going to be a fun year.”
The last victory at Rynearson for the Eagles happened during the season finale in 2008 when Eastern beat Central Michigan 56-52.
Junior college transfers Justin Cudworth (13) and Blake Poole (7) made a big splash for the Eagles leading the team in tackles from the linebacker spot. Cudworth also added a sack and forced fumble.
UCLA transfer Marlon Pollard had an interception while Latarrius Thomas, a transfer from Louisville who missed most of last season with an injury, recorded six tackles.
