Onto my favorite division, the A.L. Central. We currently have the Tigers (75-62) 5.5 games in front of the Chicago White Sox and the Cleveland Indians. So what happens here? It could be a repeat of disaster for the Tigers like it was when they played an extra game and lost to the Twins in extra innings or they could just hang on and take it which is what I think they’ll do. Justin Verlander has been baseball’s Cy-Young this year and I don’t see him stopping. Now obviously what’s behind Verlander isn’t great but it isn’t the majors’ worst either. Scherzer should be able to pitch well enough in his possible last 4 stars of the season (White Sox, Indians, Athletics and Royals). As for Porcello the boy who is more up and down than a roller-coaster but more up than down, I’d say he’ll fine as well. As for Brad Penny, well he’s Brad Penny and Doug Fister is Doug Fister. The bullpen has been holding their own and the bats have been swinging balls of fire. The only team I see posing as any kind of serious threat for the Tigers is the Chicago White Sox because the Cleveland Indians just don’t have what it takes to compete for the division or compete in September despite their “great” move for Ubaldo Jimenez. I think the Tigers have the division squared away and should win it by the margin they’re winning it now, 5 to 6 games.
