First Round (23rd overall) — OT from Oregon — Jake Fisher — With the way the first round comes about, Jake Fisher will be a first round pick. He’s worthy of a first round pick and has all the talent in the world to become a left tackle. He’s a sure fit at the right tackle position and the Lions desperately need him.
Second Round (54th overall) — DT from Washington State — Xavier Cooper — With the losses of Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley, the Lions have a huge need next to Haloti Ngata. Cooper is a big body who has raw power and speed to plug the gaps. He looks the part of a defensive tackle and should very well be a key contributor for the Lions’ defense in the future.
Third Round (88th overall) — RB from Alabama — T.J. Yeldon — The Lions will draft a running back in this draft but I don’t know when, where or who. Yeldon has been slipping down some draft boards but if he’s available in the third round, it’s going to be hard for the Lions to pass him by. He’s going to be a steal and would be a great compliment next to Riddick and Bell.
Fifth Round (168th overall) — CB from Georgia — Damian Swann — There is much-needed depth in the Lions’ secondary and it would be hard for them to have a successful defense if they didn’t take a cornerback in this draft. Swann holds a lot of value as he’s got that natural build for a corner and is quite physical for not having a lot of muscle tone. He has trouble in zone coverage but he could turn into a Brandon Boykin type of player.
Sixth Round (200th overall) — WR from UCF — Rannell Hall — Hall’s not the fastest receiver on a football field but he played well next to Breshad Perriman. Doesn’t have the biggest hands and his routes aren’t as sharp as you’d like for them to be. He’s got credit body control and does a nice job along the sideline. Would have potential next to Golden Tate and Calvin Johnson.
Seventh Round (240th overall) — OG from Fresno State — Cody Wichmann — You simply need depth at the offensive line and adding a player like Wichmann wouldn’t be bad. He’s got short arms but he’s aggressive and does well in open space. He might not be the fastest player off the snap of the ball but he does a good job pushing the line.
