There’s no question that new Pistons head coach has a huge task at hand to try to turn around a franchise that’s definitely seen better days.
But does he have the second most difficult head coaching job in the NBA?
According to Sean Deveney of the Sporting News, Pistons head coach Lawrence Frank is listed right behind Mike Brown of the Los Angeles Lakers as the most difficult head coaching jobs in the NBA.
Here is what Deveney had to say about Frank’s position…
There is some talent on the Pistons roster, and after watching last year’s lackadaisical and injury-riddled season, the record should get better. The problem is, the bulk of the money is being spent in the wrong places—Charlie Villanueva, Ben Gordon, Richard Hamilton. That could be a problem when it comes to keeping free agents like Rodney Stuckey and Tayshaun Prince, or finding new players to help the team. The one positive for new coach Lawrence Frank is that the players had lost all respect for coach John Kuester, and Frank’s presence will, at least, provide a big improvement in morale.
The ironic thing is one of the biggest problems for former head coach John Kuester was the attitude of Rodney Stuckey. The Pistons can’t fret about not having money to pay a player like Stuckey given they’ve got his replacement in Brandon Knight. Unless Stuckey is willing to shut his mouth for Frank, become a hybrid guard and come off the bench then Frank’s job could become a whole lot easier.
