After more than a year since he last stepped on a football field, Lions RB Jahvid Best still hasn’t been medically cleared to play after suffering he second concussion last season.
Lions general manager Martin Mayhew released the following statement after receiving the bad news from the doctors.
“After today’s consultation with medical experts, including representatives from our medical and training staffs, it has been determined that Jahvid will not be permitted to return to play at this time,” Mayhew said. “Throughout this entire process we always have placed the highest priority on what is best for Jahvid from a health and safety standpoint. While today’s decision is disappointing from a football perspective, we fully and entirely respect and support this recommendation. Jahvid will continue to work with our medical and training staffs with the hope that he ultimately will be cleared to return to the playing field.”
Despite the Lions still holding out hope it’s looking very apparent that Jahvid Best has played his last game in the NFL. This is especially considering the hard stance the league has taken regarding concussions and the fact that Best suffered a very serious one in college and two last season.
