In an effort to get down to the 53 man roster limit, the Detroit Lions parted with two notables Saturday afternoon ahead of the 4PM deadline.
According to Field Yates on Twitter, the Lions cut third string quarterback and former Boise State standout Kellen Moore as well as tight end and dancing aficionado Joseph Fauria.

Moore, who spent three seasons with the Lions as the team’s third stringer was dumped in favor of Dan Orlovsky who’ll serve as Matthew Stafford’s backup.
The Lions, who obviously had their eyes set on holding onto just two roster quarterbacks in 2015 gave Moore serious looks at taking over the no. 2 spot behind Stafford. However after opening up the preseason as the No. 2 guy, Moore went 9-of-17 on pass attempt for 67 yards, no touchdowns and one interception good for a QB rating of 38.1.
Lions fans however may of not seen the last of Kellen Moore who is practice squad eligible.
In addition to Moore the Lions also released former undrafted tight end Joseph Fauria whose fate seemed sealed after the acquisition of Tim Wright from the Buccaneers. Fauria seemed to know his release was imminent as he ducked reporters in the final days of the preseason.
Fauria finishes his Lions career with 24 catches for 281 yards and eight touchdowns.

Other notable cuts include wide receiver and return man Jeremy Ross according to a CBS Sports report, as well as running back George Winn after the emergence of underrated rookie Zach Zenner. Winn, a Detroit native though is eligible to join the team’s practice squad if he clears waivers.
