Detroit

History was once again made at Keyworth Stadium.

Saturday night, the Detroit City FC women’s side took to the pitch for the first time in the team’s history with fans in attendance delivering a 2-1 win over the Muskegon Risers in their UWS season opener.

Le Rouge defender Brooke Honeycutt got the scoring going in the 28′ minute finishing off a Sarah Huge post-shot giving DCFC a 1-0 lead which they took into the half.

Coming out for the second, Muskegon tied things up in the 46′ as Risers midfielder Mary Mitchell got her team on the board.

However, six minutes later in the 52′ City midfielder Marlee Taylor delivered home a beautiful volley just outside the box that found the back of the net which would eventually serve as the game-winner.

All in all it was an amazing night for DCFC as head coach Sam Piraine had his team looking poised and organized from the opening whistle keeping that Risers backline really scrambling at times.

City now takes a 1-0-0 record into next Sunday’s matchup against the Lansing United from the East Lansing Soccer Complex. This is before making their way back to the City to take on Detroit counterparts Corktown AFC on May 26 from the Corner Ballpark. Three days later, Le Rouge will return home to host the Chicago Mustangs from Keyworth.
