Detroit

Aside from Friendly, Detroit City FC announced their first USL Championship signing today confirming that captain Stephen Carroll would return to the Club for the 2022 season.

Carroll who has been with DCFC since 2017 helped form a dynamic and in some cases impenetrable backline for City during the Club’s remarkable NISA run that stretches back to the fall of 2020.

With Carroll back serving as an anchor, it’s presumed that Detroit City will still continue to present a tough matchup for opposing offensive attacks, especially if the team brings back Matt Lewis which they’re rumored to be doing.

Carroll, who has worn the captain’s armband since 2019 for City is now actually the longest-tenured current captain in Detroit professional sports beating out Dylan Larking of the Red Wings by almost two years. Carroll’s return is also symbolic in a sense considering his tenure with City stretches back to its amateur days in the NPSL.
