Deion Sanders is about to jettison Jackson State for Colorado according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel:

With Jackson State on the cusp of the SWAC title game on Saturday, Sanders and his associates have spent the week making inquiries to both potential members of his on-field staff and support staff at Colorado, pitching them to join him in Boulder, sources said.

A source told ESPN on Friday night that Sanders’ outreach included a call to a prominent player in the NCAA transfer portal, encouraging him to not make a decision because Sanders was heading to Colorado and wanted to recruit him there.

Sanders has largely quieted his doubters after initially being a surprise hire for Jackson State in 2020. His run with the Tigers will culminate with an undefeated 11-0 season before Primetime perhaps undertakes his biggest challenge yet, turning around a Colorado program that is arguably the worst power five team in the country. The Buffaloes have just two bowl appearances since 2006 and went 1-11 with a putrid point differential of minus 349.

There’s no question the Buffaloes would receive an immediate boost from a Sanders hire since it may generate the most publicity during the current hiring cycle. The biggest question, however, would be whether Sanders can continue to generate that same momentum throughout the 2023 season and beyond.
