Former MSU/NFL Star Bubba Smith died of acute drug intoxication and other conditions, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office said Wednesday.

The 66 year old Smith’s body was found on August 3rd by a caretaker.

According to the autopsy results of the 6-7 Smith, high levels of the weight-loss drug phentermine were found in his system. In addition to this, Smith had heart disease, an enlarged heart and up to 75 percent of blockage in some blood vessels.

Smith was the top overall pick in the 1967 draft after playing at Michigan State, where he was an All-America pick in 1966. His No. 95 jersey was retired in 2006.
