Despite his historically bad record as head coach with the Detroit Lions, Jim Schwartz doesn’t look to be unemployed for long.
According to Jason La Canfora (via SideLion Report) the Cleveland Browns may be looking to hire Schwartz as their new defensive coordinator.
The Cleveland Browns are very interested in interviewing Auburn coach Gus Malzahn and Vanderbilt coach James Franklin for their head coaching vacancy, according to league sources, and are expected to hire Jim Schwartz as defensive coordinator.
Schwartz, recently fired as head coach of the Lions, is held in high regard by some in the Browns organization and he is the prime candidate to replace Horton, league sources said. Particularly if Malzahn is hired, who has a limited NFL background, it would be imperative that the Browns have some established NFL coaches around him.
Schwartz not only is highly regarded (apparently) in the Browns’ organization, he was also a pretty highly regarded DC with the Tennessee Titans before taking the head coaching job in Detroit. Nonetheless if Schwartz is hired by Cleveland it should add a little bit to the cross conference, cross lake rivalry between the two teams.
