Well so much for Nick Saban having two weeks to prepare for Clemson.
Tonight the Tigers absolutely pantsed Alabama 44-16 and became the first team in the AP poll era (dating back to 1936) to finish the season 15-0.
The thing is though despite the score and just how damn good freshman Trevor Lawrence was for Clemson tonight, Alabama’s ass kicking in the National Championship Game was certainly peculiar. Aside from the final score, it’s not like Clemson was dominating in the team stat sheet. Sure, Tua Tagovailoa didn’t have his best night throwing two interceptions, however Bama won the time of possession battle, had more first downs and was statistically better on the ground.
The difference though was Clemson’s ability to convert on third down going 10-for-15 while the freshman Lawrence went 20-32 for 347 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions. Pretty remarkable for a freshman who didn’t even start out the season as the team’s No. 1 QB.
