After scoring the game tying goal with under a minute left in regulation, Boston’s Patrice Bergeron scored the game-winning goal 6:05 into overtime as the Bruins beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-4 in Game 7 Monday night.
With a 4-1 lead in the third period the Maple Leafs looked primed to complete their comeback after previously being down 3-1 in the series. However the Bruins never gave up and applied the pressure to the Leafs late as James Reimer had trouble giving up rebounds and Toronto as a whole having trouble in the face off circle.
And as Bergeron ended Toronto’s long awaited return to the playoffs, Maple Leaf’s fans were stunned in disbelief in Maple Leaf’s square outside the Air Canada Centre in downtown Toronto.
The Bruins will now go on to face the New York Rangers who finished off the Washington Capitals 5-0 in Game 7 from D.C..
