The Lions got toasted, the Tigers found an opponent, but what happened with the silent Detroit mistress?
Vancouver (3-2-1) @ Detroit (3-2-0)
Well Vancouver came to town, albeit very quietly. Through one period however, both teams fought to a stalemate. 0-0 after 20 minutes of play.
The same story continued, with Cory Schneider and Jimmy Howard staring eachother down from opposite sides of the rink, hits were abound however, with Vancouver racking up 6, and Detroit 7 in the second period alone.
However, Schneider would blink first, as two minutes, 46 seconds in, Pavel Datsyuk (3) continues to do what he always does, and broke free from a defender and scored on a wrist shot from the left circle to beat Schneider on the far pad side. It wouldn’t last long though, as Ryan Kesler (1) evened it up with a great shot that beat Howard over the glove, top shelf, to even the frame.
In the end, the Red Wings kept with their game plan, and from the same spot on the ice, in the same area, with less than a minute to play in the period, Johan Franzen (1) put the team on his back and iced the game for the Wings.
Red Wings 2 – Vancouver 1
Notes: Howard had a 97 save % in the game, earning him first star. The Mule had a goal and an assist.
There were only two other games tonight:
Florida (2-3-0) @ New York (3-3-0)
In an absolute blowout, and upset, the Islanders start off a homestand with a stunning win over the South East Champion Panthers, 4-0. Dipietro has a three game win streak, with two shutouts. FLA 0 – NYI 4
Nashville (3-2-1) @ Anaheim (3-1-2)
Nashville went into Anaheim looking to recover from their shootout loss to Pittsburgh and ended up turning the tables on the Ducks, they win in a shootout. NSH 3 – ANA 2
