A familiar face visited the Tigers today prior to their game with the Seattle Mariners and that visitor was former starting pitcher Jeremy Bonderman.

According to Steve Kornacki of Mlive.com, Bonderman appeared to be lighter than what he was when he was pitching for the Tigers. He was listed at 6-foot-2, 210 pounds. Dave Dombrowski also couldn’t help but comment on how good Bonderman looked.

What’s interesting about all of this is that when Bonderman was asked to talk to reporters, Kornacki said he (Bonderman) just smile and said “I’ll see you guys in Detroit”.

It’s not exactly clear what Bonderman meant by that or if Dombrowski is interested in bringing Bonderman back into the fold. What is known is that Tigers pitching has struggled out of the gate.

Bonderman, who is only 28 years old was 8-10 with a 5.53 ERA last year with 29 starts for the Tigers. His best season with the Tigers came in 2006 where he helped the team get to the World series by going 14-8 with a 4.08 ERA and striking out 202 in 214 innings. He also appeared in three postseason games going 1-0 with a 3.10 ERA, and according to Kornacki was 67-77 with a 4.89 ERA for the Tigers over eight seasons.

Bonderman remains a free agent after coming close to signing with the Indians during spring training and flirting with the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox.
