In need of a third string QB after the loss of Drew Stanton in the offseason, the Lions have signed undrafted free agent quarterback Kellen Moore out of Boise State.

Moore had an impressive college career with the Broncos going 50-3 as a college starter. Last season, Moore was 326-of-439 (74.3 percent) for 3,800 yards, nine interceptions and a career-best 43 touchdowns. As a junior in 2010, Moore was 273-of-383 (71.3 percent) for a career-high 3,845 yards, 35 touchdowns and six interceptions. In addition he also finished fourth in Heisman voting becoming the first player from Boise State to make the voting and earned First Team All-American and All-WAC honors.

In four years years on the blue turf at Boise State Moore accumulated 14,374 yards, 140 touchdowns and 26 interceptions. He will also join former Boise State Bronco and target Titus Young on the Lions roster.

The current outlook for Moore may be to develop him into a serviceable backup QB to Matthew Stafford once Shaun Hill’s contract expires.

In addition to Moore the Lions also signed Elon guard Rodney Austin (6-foot-3 and 308 pounds), according to according to Mark Magazu, his agent.

Austin ran the 40-yard dash in 5.25 seconds at his pro day workout.
