Lions sign former Colt CB Jacob Lacey
In an effort to bolster their depth in the secondary, the Lions signed former Indianapolis Colts CB Jacob Lacey to a one-year deal.
Lacey will more than likely be in competition for Eric Wright’s spot at corner who recently departed for Tampa Bay.
Lacey started in 10 of 15 games last season, recording 24 tackles and one interception. He has 27 starts since entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2009.
He visited Allen Park this past week after not being tendered a contract with the Colts.
Ashlee Palmer re-ups with the Lions
After bringing back Stephen Tulloch on a five-year deal, the Lions added some depth at linebacker by also bringing back Ashlee Palmer. This is according to the Detroit Free Press.
A key special teams player, Palmer earned $1.3 million last season. The terms of his new deal were not disclosed.
Detroit currently have linebackers Stephen Tulloch, Justin Durant, Doug Hogue, Slade Norris and Palmer under contract.
Andre Fluellen back with the Lions
After taking a look at the free agent market, Andre Fluellen decided returning to the Lions was his best option.
Tuesday, the Lions brought back the defensive tackle on a one year deal. The terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Last season, Fluellen had 11 tackles off the bench for Detroit. He appeared in 13 games and forced one fumble.
Lions interested in bringing back RB Kevin Smith
According to published reports the Lions are interested in bringing back RB Kevin Smith.
Smith was brought back by the Lions last November after injuries to Mikel Leshoure and Jahvid Best. He had four starts in seven games and finished the regular season with 72 carries for 356 yards and four touchdowns. In addition to this he had 22 receptions for 179 yards and three scores.
Originally drafted by the Lions in 2008, he showed some promise in his rookie season in which he gained 976 yards and scored eight touchdowns on 238 carries.
Unfortunately in 2009 Smith suffered a season-ending injury to his left knee. He rushed for 747 yards and four touchdowns prior to his injury.
Chargers FA defensive end Everette Brown to visit Lions
The Lions are reportedly going host free agent defensive end Everette Brown within the next 24 hours.
Brown, the 43rd overall pick in the 2009 draft, was waived by the Chargers last week and went unclaimed. He also had six sacks and 47 tackles in two seasons with Carolina.
