This article is in repose to Adam Hernandez’s post on the Heat’s second round victory over the Boston Celtics. Adam believed that Miami was overdoing the celebration.
The celebration was warranted. Every great team has a nemesis that they need to overcome before they become great. The Bad Boys had the showtime Lakers, and Jordan’s Bulls had to overcome the Bad Boys before their first championship.
LeBron and Wade both knew that Boston was the team they would have to overcome if they wanted to win championships. And they knew this at the end of last season. Boston beat Wade in the first round, and LeBron in the second round.
Neither had much help, and both knew they needed each other to beat the Celtics. That’s just how good that team was (before the Kendrick Perkins trade that only cost Boston it’s identity). So they joined forces in Miami not just to win games, but championships, but they still had to get through the Celtics.
Boston had pieces that fit perfectly together and the on court chemistry was great right from the beginning. It wasn’t with Miami. It took them the entire season to figure out how to use LeBron and Wade together. They finally figured it out at the right time and were able to beat Boston.
That’s why it meant so much to each of them individually and the team. The stage is now set for Miami. I expect them to come off the emotional high and be great in the Chicago series and win in 6 games, then beat whoever comes out of the west.
If that happens then beating Boston could be the start of a dynasty in the NBA, and the new Bulls nemesis will be the Miami Heat.
