It was another night for the record books down at the Joe Louis Arena Monday night as the Detroit Red Wings shut out the Buffalo Sabres 5-0 for their 15th consecutive home win.

This set a franchise record that has stood since the 1964-65.

Monday’s win also marks the third longest home winning streak in NHL history. In fact 15 consecutive wins hasn’t been done in the NHL since the Philadelphia Flyers won 20 straight at home in 1975-76. The other team to win at least 15 in a row were the 1929-30 Boston Bruins who also won 20 straight home games.

But the 15 game home winning streak wasn’t the only history making event tonight.

Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk had three assists Monday night pushing him over the 700 career point plateau. He becomes the 8th Red Wing in franchise history to reach the 700 point mark doing it in only 706 total career games.

Jimmy Howard also continued his All-Star caliber year as he stopped all 27 shots earning his 5th shutout of the season and 10th of his career.

The offense though provided tons of support for Howard as the Wings led 3-0 after the first period and 5-0 less than five minutes into the second period.

Henrik Zetterberg ended a 13 game goal drought as he got the Wings on the board with his ninth goal of the season. Franzen later scored his team leading 18th goal of the season after a beautiful pass from Pavel Datsyuk while Lidstrom added one for good measure late in the first period to put the Wings up by three.

In the second period, Todd Bertuzzi continued his offensive onslaught with a nice backhander that got by Miller while Darren Helm added the Wings’ final goal of the night only 13 seconds later.

In the battle of the Miller’s Drew Miller was able to upend his brother Ryan with an assists on Helms goal. Ryan Miller, who’s had a tough season thus far was pulled at the 4:32 mark of the second period. He allowed five goals on fourteen shots.

Next up for the Wings is the Dallas Stars from the American Airlines Arena in Dallas Tuesday night.
