Michigan suffers first loss of the season to Michigan State

After a lackluster offense was unable to capitalize on Spartan penalties, Brady Hoke and the Michigan Wolverines suffer their first loss of the season 28-14 from Spartan Stadium.

What may hurt even more though is the fact that Michigan has now lost to Michigan State four years in a row, something that hasn’t happened since 1962.

Denard Robinson and the Michigan offense were scrambling all day only mustering 250 total yards. And like last season, Michigan State was able to shut down Denard Robinson and prevent Michigan from developing any kind of running game.

Robinson went 9-for-24 for 123 yards passing and only rushed for 42 yards before leaving the game in the fourth quarter after a roughing the passer penalty on State.

Robinson nor Brady Hoke would comment or elaborate on the nature of the injury or if the Junior QB would miss any time for it. During the broadcast the injury was described as a torso injury.

Despite that lackluster offense, Michigan had its opportunities late to take the lead in the game.

After Wolverine CB J.T. Floyd was able to force a B.J. Cunningham fumble, Michigan recovered the ball on the Michigan State 32 yard line.

On the very next drive for Michigan, Brady Hoke made a very questionable call where he decided to go for it on a fourth and inches when the Wolverines where well within field goal range. Instead of converting on the play, Michigan State ended up sacking Robinson for a 10 yard loss giving Michigan State the ball back after a turnover on downs.

Michigan now has to regroup as they head into their bye week before hosting Purdue on October 29th. One thing though seems certain, Brady Hoke won’t let this team go into a downward spiral like last season.
