The Clippers swing a five player deal with the Trail Blazers

LOS ANGELES, CA - FEBRUARY 2: Norman Powell #24 of the Portland Trail Blazers dribbles the ball during the game against the Los Angeles Lakers on February 2, 2022 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California. With the NBA trade deadline still a week away the Clippers are wasting zero time modifying their roster as they currently sit in play-in territory at the beginning of February.

Here’s Woj with the news:

The LA Clippers are acquiring Portland Trail Blazers veterans Norman Powell and Robert Covington in a trade that sends Eric Bledsoe, Justise Winslow, Keon Johnson and a 2025 second-round draft pick to Portland, sources told ESPN on Friday.

The Clippers will send a 2025 second-round pick via the Detroit Pistons, sources said.

For the Clippers, Powell should provide an offensive boost averaging 18.7 points per game this season while shooting 40.6 percent from downtown. This also couldn’t have come at a better time for the Clippers who will probably be without Kawhi Leonard for the rest of the season as he continues to recover from a torn ACL while Paul George remains sidelined indefinitely with that elbow injury.

As far as Covington goes, he’s, unfortunately, suffering one of the least productive seasons of his career from an offensive standpoint averaging 7.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. However, defensively Covington could fit in as a nice defensive wing averaging 1.5 steals and 1.3 blocks per game while having the ability to guard multiple positions.
