Broken records are sometimes fun, especially when talking about Detroit City FC.

Saturday night, as the women’s side of the club was taking care of business back in Detroit, the men’s side completed a sweep of southern California when they defeated San Diego 1904 3-1 to remain undefeated in the NISA spring season.

City as usual got the goal scoring started in the 45’+ when Anthony Manning netted another one on the season off a corner from Max Todd as DCFC continues to be pretty deadly when it comes to their corner attempts.

Coming out of the half, it was Max Todd once again setting things up for Detroit City breaking through the 1904 line while attracting two defenders in the process. This ended up opening up Connor Rutz who put home Todd’s cross giving DCFC a 2-0 lead.

Then finally in the 84′ minute, Jimmy Filerman scored his first of the season when he avoided a tackle near the touchline before finding some space in the box and banking the ball off the crossbar and into the back of the net.

City was just minutes away from another clean sheet, however, a converted penalty from Cesar Romero Jr. got San Diego on the board but it was much too little and much too late as Le Rouge moved to 4-0 in the spring table taking absolutely full control of the regular season.

Aside from their continued dominance over the rest of NISA this spring, Detroit City put to bed one of the very few criticisms they’ve had throughout the current campaign which was their ability to score goals. Le Rouge has outscored their opponents 6-1 over their last two games while their defense continues to be an absolute steel trap.

Detroit City will now make their way back to the state to take on the Michigan Stars next Saturday. That game though is in doubt after the Stars decided they would not participate in tonight’s match against the Cal United Strikers over “unresolved issues” with NISA and have subsequently pulled all ticket sales for upcoming league matches.

Le Rouge returns home on June 2 in a match against the LA Force who currently sit in second in the spring table at 2-0-1.
