The city of Detroit notched a professional soccer win.

Last night, the Detroit City FC made history becoming the first pro team out of the city of Detroit in decades to win a fixture as they dominated the Los Angeles Force with a final of 2-0 in their NISA debut.

Matt Lewis scored DCFC’s first goal in the new era taking advantage of a rebound off a City free-kick just outside the penalty box early in the first half.

Le Rouge would really go on to dominate the rest of the half killing it in time of possession while limiting LA to any significant scoring opportunities.

In the second half, DCFC managed to stave off any LA attempt at a comeback while hometown kid Roddy Green sealed the game for City in the 90-plus minute with his first goal of the season. Meanwhile, Le Rouge keeper Austin Rogers turned away all LA chances recording a clean sheet in his DCFC debut.

🖕Fuck MLS

One of the sweetest things about last night’s win for Detroit was it was done without Major League Soccer who sucks more life out of soccer communities around the United States than it does to lift them up.

Sure, MLS would love to lure Detroit into get their bloodsucking Ponzi scheme, however credit to Detroit City FC and their supporters for getting shit done in the community the right way, the way it’s typically done around the rest of the world.

I mean let’s put things in perspective here. A decade ago Detroit City FC didn’t exist. And now, the club and the City has seen multiple culminations from a Member’s Cup title last fall to a pro win on the road in their NISA debut. The success wasn’t brought on with billionaire money and it wasn’t brought on by the MLS and its closed system that props up big money investors at the expense of soccer growth in the United States.

Grassroots support in your club goes a long way. Detroit City FC is a prime example of that.
