Dre Bly works out with Lions players, hopes to get another shot in the NFL

There was another familiar face at the Lions’ player organized workouts  today at Detroit Country Day High School.

That player was former Lions CB Dre Bly.

Bly was released by the Lions last season in training camp but is hoping to get another shot in the NFL.

According to Tom Kowalski of Mlive.com, the current lockout may be exactly what a veteran guy like Bly needs to get himself back in the league.

“This is sort of in the veteran’s favor – guys like me. The undrafted free agents can’t really get signed right now and for guys like them, the time they have to show who they are and impress coaches and teams, are times like now,” Bly said. “It sucks for them, but for a guy like me – it’s not a good thing – but I’m going to keep myself fresh just in case.”

Last season was Bly’s second stint with the Lions after being traded to Denver in 2006.

“I wasn’t bitter, I was disappointed,” he said, adding that it was good to get back on the field with some of his old teammates. Well, except for safety Louis Delmas.

“He keeps calling me ‘Granddaddy,”’ Bly said.

After failing to address the secondary in this year’s draft, the Lions probably should take a look at Bly to see if he has anything left in the tank.
