U-M/MSU Football pursuing four-star cornerback Yuri Wright

The two biggest college football programs in the state, Michigan and Michigan State are currently in a race to land one of the more coveted high school prospects in the United States. According to Sam Webb of the Detroit News, both the Wolverines and Spartans are looking to improve their secondary by landing four-star recruit Yuri Wright out of Bosco Prep in Ramsey, N.J..

“I’m a 6-2, 180-pound cornerback that has real good technique, is real physical, plays really good in man-to-man press, and I have great speed,” Wright said confidently. “My jumping ability is off the chart. There really aren’t a lot of guys of my size that can play the position like I can. I have the size to be able to play against big receivers.”

Last season (his first year of Varsity football), Wright had 45 tackles, six interceptions, and two interception returns for touchdowns. With his size and speed (4.45), Scout.com has ranked Wright the 5th best CB in the country and the 51st best player overall.

According to Webb, Wright hasn’t really thought a lot about recruitment other than limiting his choices in schools to Rutgers, Georgia, Notre Dame, California, Michigan and Michigan State. Webb states that there doesn’t seem to be a leader amongst the group however Michigan has seemed to gotten the attention of Wright.

“Michigan is the school I wanted to go to my whole life, and I just love the University of Michigan,” Wright told Scout.com. “I’m going to visit Michigan. It’s in two or three weeks, but I have to settle on the date.”
