The Detroit Lions beat all the usual suspects to the punch and announced an injury to a key player. This key player is fresh off a four year. $33.2 million dollar extension signed right before the 2015 season.
Coach Caldwell announced that DeAndre Levy will undergo surgery. A determination on whether or not he will go on IR has not been made.

Despite the 0-5 record, the Detroit Lions haven’t decided to put him on injured reserve. Considering roster spots are more valuable than gold why haven’t the shelved him for the year? The move would allow the Lions to add a player to the active roster who they can develop or at least see what they are made of.
#Lions will wait 2-3 weeks before making a call on DeAndre Levy, who is having hip surgery. Could return for a month or more, could be on IR

The Lions choosing to not shelve Levy for the season means one of two things. Ownership is delusional, demanding that management scrap and scramble to try and still make the playoffs or the General Manager Martin Mayhew is scrambling to keep his job. He is not making choices in the best interest of the franchise, but rather in his own best interest trying to keep his job.
The best move for the franchise is for DeAndre Levy to be done for the year. Placing him on injured reserve would allow him to fully heal up and not end up with a compensation injury and then miss part or all of next season. But since the parties that make that decisions are acting either irrationally or in their own self interest, DeAndre Levy will be rushed back and then more permanent damage to his hip or an even worse injury else where, costing the Detroit Lions wins down the line.
