Detroit Lions wide receiver Golden Tate wasn’t happy after his team’s 13-10 loss to the Seahawks and rightly so.
Aside from the missed call at the end that helped in costing the Lions the game, Tate’s frustrations when it comes to Joe Lombardi’s play calling have been pretty clear over the past several days.
After their loss to the Broncos last week, Tate went on saying that opposing defenses knew what play the Lions were going to run on offense. Maybe there’s some underlying conspiracy theory there but Tate followed up last night saying all he can do is ‘run the plays’ when asked about his minimal production this season.
Here’s Tate’s comments via Mlive:
Although Tate never directly complained about Detroit’s offensive scheme or coordinator Joe Lombardi, the receiver’s frustrations were clear as he repeated the same answer whenever he was asked about his or the unit’s continued struggles.
“I don’t know, man,” Tate said. “All they do is call the plays, I run the plays. That’s all.”
Sure, Tate’s not driving the bus over Lombardi’s play calling, but he may as well be a passenger on it.
Last night Tate was targeted four times for just 29 yards which puts him well below the pace of last season’s 99 catches for 1,331 yards last season. Likewise last night the Lions totaled just 256 yards of offense which is their lowest output for them this season. All too for a team that on paper was supposed to have one of the most electrifying offenses this season.
Lets just finish with this though. The Miami Dolphins fired head coach Joe Philbin after starting the season 1-3. I’m not saying Jim Caldwell has to lose his job at this point, but shouldn’t they be taking a good long look at Joe Lombardi? Especially considering this team hasn’t scored an offensive touchdown since the third quarter against the Broncos.
Then again this is the Lions…
