The Lions defense stood strong Sunday as Detroit beat up on Aaron Rodgers and that Packers offense 19-7.

Ndamukong Suh and the rest of the Lions’ D pressured Green Bay QB Aaron Rodgers all day as Detroit’s secondary who has been plagued by injury withstood the aerial attack from the Packers. Safety Don Carey got things going for Detroit scoring wise returning an Eddie Lacy fumble 40-yards for a touchdown on Green Bay’s opening drive.

Aaron Rodgers finished his day finding himself sacked twice and mustering only 162 yards of offense.

Meanwhile Matthew Stafford went 22 of 34 for 246 yards and two interceptions. However it was Stafford’s second INT that proved to help the Lions more than hurt. On a deep pass to Calvin Johnson in the second quarter, Davon House was able to pick it off at the goal line setting Green Bay up 1 and 10 deep within their own territory. Green Bay tried to run the ball with Lacy once again but was stuff by DeAndre Levy in the end zone making it 9-7 Lions.

Eventually Detroit’s offense was able to score their first TD of the afternoon on a 26-yard run by Reggie Bush in the fourth quarter.

Game Notes:

  • Detroit rookie place kicker Nate Freese could soon find himself unemployed as he missed a 41-yard field goal at the end of the first half. He’s now 0 for 4 beyond 40 yards this season and 3 of 7 overall.
  • Packers LB Clay Matthews left the game early with a groin injury.
  • DeAndre Levy is picking up right where he left off last season recording nine tackles and an assist.
  • Suh and Tulloch accounted for Detroit’s two sacks.
  • Julius Peppers sacked Matthew Stafford forcing a fumble in the third quarter after the Lions made it down to the Green Bay 7-yard line.
